Keep On Moving
Sometimes when I’m thinking of where to draw my motivation from I never have to look any further than my own life experiences. Like earlier today, when the song ‘Keep On Moving’ by Soul II Soul popped into my head. When I was a kid I used to love that song because initially I was drawn in by the rhythm. I never really paid close attention to the words until I got older.
Keep on moving
don’t stop like the hands of time
find your own way to stay.
The time will come one day.
I like the message of this song because it basically says that you must keep on moving just like the hands of time on the clock. Time waits for no one and unfortunately that’s one of the most fundamental truths that we all share. None of us is going to get any more time added to our clocks because life is, at its base, one big countdown.
So what are you going to do with your time? It’s a very precious commodity and to waste it would be asinine. Because, unlike the saying goes, time is not money. You can get more money, but the time you have left is unknown to you and shouldn’t be squandered away with things that aren’t important. Or people who mean nothing to you. Or situations that you don’t have to live with anymore.
It’s easy to allow the problems in your life to drag you into a pity party. Feeling sorry for yourself has never been a difficult task, which is why so many of us do it and remain there for long periods of time. The hard part is dusting yourself off, starting over and letting go of what was in order to try again and do it better than you did before. You may not be where you want to be right now but I can guarantee you the only way that you’ll move forward is to plant both feet on the ground and take the advice of author Henry David Thoreau:
Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you’ve imagined. As you simplify your life, the laws of the universe will be simpler.
And whatever you do never allow anyone to tell you what you should and should not try. People’s opinions are just that; opinions. It’s not your law.
The trajectory of your life should not be based on someone else’s story. Go for yours. Keep on moving and never, ever stop.
