What has been traditionally an event setup to discuss the issues, share ideas and sway the American public for votes turned into a white minstrel show.
These two fools slandered each other, name called, threw shade and avoided answering multiple questions for ninety minutes while moderator Lester Holt watched aimlessly for his moment to say something.
Clinton’s answers and debate style far surpassed Trump’s, but it still didn’t leave me hopeful for her being the leader of our nation.
However, if I have to choose between her and the magical Oompa Loompa with Family Dollar rug hair I’m gonna have to go for Hillary.
And that’s only by default because, in all honesty, most people’s apprehension and apathy towards both of them stems from the fact that we’re losing Obama as our president.
And whoever comes in after him has some huge shoes to fill.
Was Obama perfect? No he wasn’t. However, he exhibited charm, cool and consistency during an administration rife with dissension, demoralization and disrespect.
He was never given the opportunity to engage negatively with his opponents because he knew that not only was the world watching America was watching too.
And they wanted nothing more than to see this proud black brotha slip up during his time in the seat of power.
His absence as the commander and chief will be felt internationally. And unfortunately, the fact remains that whoever comes in after him is going to be a complete disappointment to somebody.
With Hillary and Donald at the center of one of the most bizarre, contentious races in our history the deck has already been stacked against them before they even sit down in the oval office.
Hillary has been facing criticism from the public since her days in the White House as the First Lady. Tack on subsequent scandals like Whitewater, Benghazi and her penchant for pandering to the African America demographic and it leaves a bad taste in the mouths of many Americans who will gladly choose to not vote for her.
Especially since she’s a woman, which has been the deciding factor for most since she put her bid in almost a decade ago.
In opposition to her you have The Donald.
What can I say about him?
He’s a belligerent, dangerously antiquated, narcissistic xenophobe who throws tantrums and has no idea what it means to be humble or gracious.
He’s the walking comments section of every website in the world, and his followers are just as brusque and barbaric.
And….let’s also not forget that he’s a huge Reality TV star.
People always fail to bring that fact up. His antics work well for ratings (clearly, with Monday’s record-breaking viewership) but as our President?
Not so much.
The offerings we’ve been given are mediocre at best. And I know there are a lot of people who ride hard for Hillary and will publicly chastise anyone that doesn’t have anything other than gushy warm words of affection for her. Conversely, the Trump supporters are just as racist, xenophobic and clueless as he is and will fight for their right to be racist, xenophobic and clueless because ‘MURICA!!!
So here we are. Two candidates yelling at each other like divorced parents at the dinner table during dysfunctional Thanksgiving at Grandmom’s house.
A nation divided like children torn between two parents that don’t even love them. They just want to be in control.
I hope you’re paying attention.
